Product Description

African Blue Tail Rainbow Skinks For Sale

Trachylepis or Mabuya quinquetaeniatus

An attractive skink resembling the blue tailed and five-lined skinks of the Eastern US, they reach up to 10 inches in length, and sport a bright blue tail (hence the name).  Males and females are sexually dimorphic, with males lacking the distinctive markings, but instead displaying a swath of blackness across their faces with small blue markings strewn across it like a starry night.  The females display the more familiar five-line like appearance, with a bright blue tail, and are generally more diminutive in size.  Like most skinks, they will take the majority of commercialy available feeder insects with fervor, as well as overripe fruits on occasion.  They require warm, humid conditions, and ready access to water, and are very fond of hiding places, and loose substrate in which they can burrow.  They are reasonably flighty, but with regular handling, they can be made quite tractable.

Bottom Line?

Attractive, lively, interesting to watch, this West African skink species is not terribly tough to care for, and is very attractive at the price point.  They take a bit of handling to calm down, but are suitable for even relatively new keepers.

  1. skinks 5 Star Review

It came fine and livelIy. Unfortunately the male redsided skink that came with it was nearly dead, and died within a couple of hours. I had thrown away the packing so I won't claim anything.

I ordered a group of 3 and FCR sent me one extra. They all arrived alive. They are eating and drinking fine. Quite an active skink. All are doing great.
