Product Description

Slimy Salamander For Sale

Plethodon glutinosus

Though there is a variety of species referred to as the Slimy Salamander, the only means by which to distinguish them is via genetic analysis or a knowledge of the locale of origin.  Why bother with the delineation then, you ask?  Well...Science is funny like that.  This Slimy Salamander for sale is P. glutinosus, or the Northern Slimy Salamander.  Anyway, the Slimy Salamander is a reasonably small attractive woodland species from the Eastern United States that prefers low temperatures and a substrate in which they can safely and easily burrow.  The temperature in their enclosure should generally not exceed 75*F, and they tend to do well on moist sphagnum with a regular offering of small crickets, wax worms, fruit flies, and other small commonly available feeder worms.  If keeping multiple Slimies, sufficient space should be provided so as to prevent territorial aggression between individuals, and hides are greatly appreciated by them as well.  These salamanders are not difficult to keep, and feature a dark background color with numerous small light colored spots.  Like most other salamanders, handling should be kept to a minimum for the animal's safety...not to mention the incredibly sticky residue left behind on your hands after handling these!  For those who enjoy salamanders, or for those interested, these make an excellent choice!

Bottom Line?

A small, lithe, fossorial Salamander with territorial habits and a somewhat secretive nature, the Slimy Salamander is a reasonably common species and a good choice for those looking to branch out in the captive care of amphibians.

We lost our on pet salamander that we had caught in the yard & thought it was going to be impossible to replace him. However, after googling & finding first choice reptiles we found a perfect match on their site & our kids never knew that their beloved pet had escaped. Whew!

Negotiated delivery date so I would be home to receive them without any problem. Arrived in perfect condition. Because of local weather being a little warmer than expected, I gave them a cool water rinse upon arrival, which livened them up right away. Overall, great stock! Started eating fruit flies immediately, too!
